A RESOLUTION

Observing September 15 through October 15, 2026, as "Hispanic

Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, "National Hispanic Heritage Month" is celebrated

annually from September 15 through October 15 to honor the

histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose

ancestors came from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South

America and Spain; and

WHEREAS, This observance began as "Hispanic Heritage Week" in

1968 and expanded to a full-month observance in 1988; and

WHEREAS, September was chosen to mark the beginning of this

observance because it is the anniversary of independence for

Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua while

also encompassing the independence anniversaries of Mexico and

Chile; and

WHEREAS, The Hispanic and Latino community is one of the

fastest-growing populations in this Commonwealth, making up 9%

of the State's population; and
